Ethical approval
For original article and short communications involving human or animal subjects, authors must clearly state in the materials and methods that they received the written consent of each subject and the approval from the local Institutional Review Board (IRB), reporting the number of the approval.

For studies involving human subjects, authors need to state that the study is conformed to the ethical principles, as reported by the World Medical Association Declaration of Helsinki or by European Medicines Agency Guidelines for Good Clinical Practice. A copy of the IRB approval must be uploaded to the website http://www.ajomonline.org upon submission.

For studies involving animals, authors must adhere to the animal research reporting standards (ARRIVE guidelines) and also state that adequate measures were taken to minimize pain or discomfort (Materials and Methods). Experiments must follow the guidelines established by the Directive 2010/63/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 22 September 2010 on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes (for European authors), by the US Publich and Health Service and the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (For USA authors).

For Challenging case, Case report into Letter to the editor section, and Image in oral medicine, authors must state in title page that they received the informed consent from the patient, but are not required to provide a copy of the consent form to the AJOM. Authors must ensure that patient anonimity is preserved by adequately cropping photographs.

Permissions
If you include in your manuscript any material that has been previously published or copyrighted, authors must obtain written permission from the copyright owner to reproduce the material and submit this authorization with the manuscript. The original source must be cited.

Copyright policy
All papers published using the Open Access Model are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution License, Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International. Under this license, authors retain ownership of the copyright for their content, but allow anyone to download, distribute, and/or copy the content, without permission from the authors. However, whoever uses a specific content must give credit to the original authors and source. The material cannot be used for commercial purposes and cannot be distributed if remixed, transformed, or modified.

Plagiarism
Plagiarism is forbidden, as well as duplication of publications, data fabrication and falsification, and improper credit of author contribution.

Violation of Publication Ethics
Should the American Journal of Oral Medicine ascertain a violation against the Journal’s publication ethics, the following actions will be taken:

* The work will be immediately rejected or retracted with a notification to corresponding authors and co-authors, as well as any other work that is still under review in the AJOM.

* The authors responsible for the violation will be prohibited from submitting their work to the AJOM in the future, and from serving on the AJOM editorial board.
